It's time for shorts and for many women that means taking a quick and painful look in the mirror. The majority of us aren't completely happy with the way we look and can spend hours picking out areas that we long to improve. Unfortunately, genetics play a huge roll is body type and something you just can't argue with what nature has to say. For women with short and wide legs, buying clothing can be a real task. Don't lose you're determination. Looking great is merely a matter of knowing what works for you. Here are 5 rules you should follow to make your legs look great in everything form tights and leggings to skirts and shorts.
Rule #1 - Buy the Right Size Shirt
The goal for women with short and wide legs is to create an elongated appearance through tactful clothing choices. In this instance, the clothing item in question is your tops. Never choose shirts that extend past your hips or that end right at you're hips. Shirts that go past you're hips elongate you're torso and make your legs appear shorter. Shirts that end exactly at the hip can break up your body making it look wider.
Rule #2 - Don't be Tempted By Bagging Pants
If you're self conscious about you're legs you may be tempted to buy pants that are a little baggy. Masking size with extra clothing is the absolute worst thing you can do. Instead of drawing attention away from you're legs this will do the opposite. Choose pants that fit you're legs the way they should and you will automatically look better.
Rule #3 - Avoid Light Color Jeans
Light color jeans are hard to pull of for most and if you have shorter and wider legs it can be close to impossible. The light color material, specifically when it's faded in the center of your thigh, can add unwanted depth to your leg. Dark denim, tights, leggings, and pants are you're best choices. They also tend to look more polished than lighter washes which is generally a positive thing on all accounts.
Rule #4 - No Horizontal Stripes
Horizontal stripes are fashion disasters waiting to happen. Whether it's you're top or your bottom, these stripes or patterns will instantly make you appear larger and wider. It's true that there isn't a huge trend in horizontally striped pants, but tops can have a negative impact on you're appearance as well. If you have shorter legs you will want to do you're best to elongate them by creating an over all appearance of length. Horizontal tops do just the opposite.
Rule #5 - Avoid Full Length Skirts
It's tempting to hide you're legs behind long skirts assuming it will cover up what you don't want to be seen. Unfortunately, this works against your body type and can make you look shorter and wider. Long skirts on short legs creates a abrupt ending that does the opposite of elongating your body. Instead this tends to make you're bottom half look boxy. Look for skirts that end right below the knee. These offer the coverage you want without covering everything. If you're still uncomfortable about baring your calves, choose a dark color opaque tight. This will cover your legs and create a slimming appearance.
